Paleos Panteleimonas, situated in the shadow of the mountain of the gods, is a traditional settlement that has managed to maintain its picturesque character and unique atmosphere in an area full of natural beauty. This place has retained most of the real traditional Greek atmosphere.

Το χωριό

Paleos Panteleimonas is famous for its handicraft shops (made by local artisans). There we can find local delicacies such as: figs, chestnuts and other fruits in a sweet pickle, tsipouro – Greek moonshine made from squeezed grape must or from the fruit of the Kumara strawberry tree, liqueurs, honey – especially horse chestnut or Olimp flowers. 

Near the church there are herbs and spices, in front of which there are canvas bags with bay leaf, oregano, thyme, mountain mint or chamomile. The Olympic games are said to be more intense than the others.

You can buy mountain tea called sideritis – known as gojnik. Apparently he has a panacea for all ailments.

The historic church of St. Panteleimon – the patron of the sick, the suffering, the mad, the insane, and the patron of doctors and nurses. Panteleimon himself was a patron full of mercy and compassion for all the sick and suffering. He was born as Panteleon which means lion in everything but changed his name to Panteleimon which means full of mercy. We call this church the heart of the village. It is the most popular meeting place for people. They are delighted with the interior and often decide to organize celebrations there, such as baptisms or weddings. It is a common sight when you come to visit the village on Saturdays or Sundays.

It is located at an altitude of 500 m above sea level on the slopes of Olimp. To get to the town, you need to go up a winding mountain road specially built for coaches, which offers a beautiful view of the Thermaic Bay, which is part of the Aegean Sea. From the top there is a view of the castle in Plato.

There is no marked trail in the town. The stone buildings of the city, narrow streets, beautiful views and fresh mountain air will allow us to get to know the atmosphere of real Greece. It offers a beautiful panorama. The houses in Stary Panteleimon are built very densely and arouse great admiration among tourists. Various tables and chairs in cafes and taverns add to the Greek atmosphere of the village. The town is characterized by a traditional settlement as it is one of the best examples of traditional Macedonian architecture in northern Greece.
