In the area of the Olympic Riviera, which is located in the eastern part of Macedonia on the Aegean Sea, you can find many beaches, both sandy and rocky. This region is characterised by warm waters and the absence of sea currents. In this post, we will give you a lot of valuable information about the beaches, as well as related interesting facts.
FOR WHOM?
The Olympic Riviera is a favourite tourist destination visited mainly by Poles, Serbs, Bulgarians and even Greeks themselves. People visit this region because of the fairly low prices, the possibility of various sports, and also because of the intimate beaches. When visiting the beaches on the Riviera, we can primarily visit places such as Mount Olympus National Park, Dion, Paralia Skotinas and Katerini. This region is especially recommended for families with children, water sports enthusiasts and lovers of beaches and picturesque landscapes. If you want to save some money, enjoy the warm Aegean Sea, the Greek sun and even visit other beautiful places, this is the perfect place for you!
WHEN TO GO?
The best time to visit this region is all the way from May to September and even October. It is slightly cooler in autumn, but in return, the sea is warmer than in summer. If you do not mind high temperatures, the best time to visit the beaches is between the end of June and the end of August. Due to the low amount of precipitation, you can enjoy the sunshine for longer. The best opportunity to combine sightseeing and beachcombing will be during the border months.
HOW TO GET THERE?
The most popular way to reach this region is by car directly from Poland. However, a more convenient, comfortable and faster option would be to travel by plane. The nearest airport is in Thessaloniki, where you can stay, or take a bus or rental car to another part of the Olympic Riviera.
DO BEACHES IN GREECE HAVE TO BE PAID FOR?
Admission to the beaches is usually free, but keep in mind that to use the sunbeds you have to pay around 6-8 euros per day or buy something at the bar, which is the more cost-effective option.
WHAT MEANS OF TRANSPORT CAN BE USED TO GET TO THE BEACHES IN THIS REGION?
The answer is not clear-cut. The larger beaches are easily accessible by public transport, but the smaller ones are not always so accessible. For a single ticket you usually pay between 1 and 2 euros. As a last resort you can take a taxi, but it is not recommended. Taxi drivers are often not very polite, try to trick tourists into paying extra, and in addition it is one of the most expensive options for getting around.
