GREEK AND POLISH CUISINE

The Greek dinner definitely differs from the Polish one. It is dominated by the abundance and satiety of the served dishes. Characteristic feature is the presence of fats. In fact, dinner is very similiar to the main lunch dishes. In Poland, dinner is quite a light meal. Fried and hard-to-digest dishes are avoided.

TYPICAL GREEK DINNERS

1. Saganaki – consists mainly of seafood, such as mussels, shrimps, and is baked with tomato sauce. Its inseparable ingredient is feta cheese.
2. Octopus – most often you can find it grilled, boiled or served in olive oil.
3. Gyros in pita

HOW TO RECREATE GREEK SAGANAKI IN YOUR OWN KITCHEN?

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg of mussels
  • a bunch of parsley
  • a glass of white wine
  • two tablespoons of oil
  • spoon of butter
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 200g of feta or Balkan cheese
  • a can of tomatoes without the peel
  • a little cream 30% +1 small onion
  • half a teaspoon of dried oregano
  • a pinch of cinnamon
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper

Clean the mussels, throw away those that are cracked, rinse them under cold water and put them aside. Blend the tomatoes with salt, oregano and cinnamon. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan. Glass half of the previously chopped onion and two chopped garlic cloves, add the tomatoes and simmer for about 15 minutes. Heat the remaining oil in a large pot, cook the remaining onion and garlic, add the butter. When the butter melts, add the wine and wait for it to boil, then add the cream and bring it to the boil. Put the mussels and chopped parsley, mix and cover the pot. At this point, add the crushed feta cheese to the tomato sauce. After 5 minutes, the mussels are ready. We put them on plates and add feta sauce to them. Season with freshly ground pepper.
A baguette and a glass of rose wine will be the perfect addition.
